Mental Health

Neal Palles, LCSW

Unfortunately in our society mental health is poorly acknowledged and often times treated as if it were a stigma. We don’t talk about it at home and certainly don’t talk about it at the office.   In order to address some of our society’s most pressing problems such as domestic violence, gun violence, and drug abuse, we need to talk about mental health.

It's not just that person that you are losing, it's the whole package. You are then forced to re-invent what life now looks like without that person, all while trying to manage your own emotional reaction to the loss. It can be challenging.

Make Memorial Day Memorable

Tom Edgar, LCSW

Memorial Day

Memorial Day (the last Monday in May) is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in our armed services. In honoring them, service member’s graves are often decorated with flowers or a miniature flag. Chances are that somewhere in your family tree you may have had a relative who died while serving their country. While it may not be possible to visit a grave site and participate in this longstanding custom, you can still participate by making a memory and establishing a yearly tradition to commemorate this event in your family.

Forgiveness is not always easy. At times, it feels more painful than the wound we suffered, to forgive the one that inflicted it. And yet, there is no peace without forgiveness.
