Build stronger relationships by getting to know…yourself?

Chad Bouchard, LPC

People

Developing and maintaining healthy, positive relationships requires us to be both insightful and introspective. One of the first steps in building a positive relationship is getting to know yourself.  Learning qualities about yourself, both positive and negative, helps to avoid “Red Flag” issues and also helps in appreciating other people’s perspectives.

Being both insightful and understanding, may seem easy at first, but is often difficult to navigate as “expectations” and life change.  The path of relationship...

Tom Edgar, LCSW

Toddler

Around the time your toddler begins talking and walking, you’ll want to introduce expectations of where, what, and how your toddler can interact not only with you but also with the rest of the world.  Welcome to the stage “terrible 2s!”

Child Abuse Prevention

Neal Palles, LCSW

FamilySeveral years ago I attended a phenomenal workshop through a program called Parenting Safe Children.  The purpose of the program was to educate parents about how to keep children safe from sexual abuse. They offer workshops, both online and face-to-face, for parents and providers.  I don’t want to pretend I know it all.  I’m simply encouraging people to educate themselves about this topic. Check out this program’s website and material, or find other professional resources that teach about keeping children safe from abuse.  I’m not in the business of endorsing anyone’s program, just the idea that Child Abuse Prevention

Is Winter Getting you Down?

Chad Bouchard, LPC

During this time of year one’s emotions can vary.  As the weather is cold, and the days short, people tend to experience both physical and mental shifts. There is a tendency to stay inside more, become less active, and often less engaging with the outside world.  A concern that arises during this time is an increase in depressive symptoms.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that is related to changes in seasons. SAD symptoms can begin in the fall and last through the winter months.  When identified, SAD can be treated with remedies from your home and/or your doctor. If you or somebody you know is showing changes in their mood, level of frustrations, sleeping patterns, or is just not being “themselves” during this time of year, they could be suffering from more than...
