Therapy Truths

KC O'Brien, LPC

Myth:  Only people who are crazy go see therapists.

Reality:  NOT TRUE!  There are many reasons people seek help from a therapist.  Sure, some people seek counseling because they have significant behavioral health issues such as Bipolar Disorder or Schizophrenia, but other people go to therapy to receive help with transitions in life like loss of a relationship, loss of a job, divorce or grief.  Some individuals may seek therapy to stop smaller issues from turning into major problems.  Maybe these people are working on ways to improve their relationship with their spouse or looking for ways to achieve a balance between their family life and work life.

Often the stigma associated with getting help from a therapist will prevent a person from receiving treatment.  The truth is that most anyone can benefit from therapy.
