Eating Disorder Awareness Week- February 21-27

Chad Bouchard, LPC

Research suggests that eating disorders impact 1 or 2 out of every 100 students in America. Teens are heavily influenced by not only their peer groups, but also by sports and celebrity figures. These influences and social pressures have huge impacts on self-image and eating habits. Whether your teen is trying to be a certain weight to improve in sports, or to fit into a certain type of clothing, shaping their body through eating can result in both mental and physical health concerns. These concerns often involve depression, changes in mood, and atypical physical ailments.

The most common types of eating disorders are Anorexia and Bulimia. With the proper resources and support both of these disorders are treatable and your child can get back on to a healthy way of life.
