Is Winter Getting you Down?

Chad Bouchard, LPC

During this time of year one’s emotions can vary.  As the weather is cold, and the days short, people tend to experience both physical and mental shifts. There is a tendency to stay inside more, become less active, and often less engaging with the outside world.  A concern that arises during this time is an increase in depressive symptoms.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that is related to changes in seasons. SAD symptoms can begin in the fall and last through the winter months.  When identified, SAD can be treated with remedies from your home and/or your doctor. If you or somebody you know is showing changes in their mood, level of frustrations, sleeping patterns, or is just not being “themselves” during this time of year, they could be suffering from more than just the “winter blues”.  Take some time to look into SAD symptoms and talk with a professional about your concerns.
